Experience Courage in Play Therapy

Specializing in Play Therapy with children from age 6 older and their families.

Fred Rogers “Mr. Rogers Neighborhood” (Janet’s childhood hero):

“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.”

At Experience Courage Therapy, when children are given space to express themselves through play, they begin to soften, grow, and find their footing—and the adults who love them gain a deeper understanding of how to truly see, support, and connect with them.

Janet Nordine, MS, LMFT, RPT-S™, RST™ is one of the few Registered Play Therapist-Supervisors (RPT-S) and Registered Sand Therapists (RST™) with the World of Sand Tray Professionals in private practice in Las Vegas, Nevada. With extensive specialized training and years of clinical experience, Janet has developed a nuanced and attuned approach to working with children through their natural language of play.

Her work creates a safe, steady space where children can express their inner worlds—often beyond what words alone can hold. Through play, children are able to communicate emotions, needs, and experiences in a way that feels natural and accessible. Janet meets each child with warmth, curiosity, and respect, holding a deep belief that every child deserves to feel safe, seen, and genuinely understood.

Janet’s work is grounded in Gestalt Play Therapy, where the focus is on present-moment awareness, authentic contact, and honoring the child’s lived experience as it unfolds. As a Gestalt therapist, she attends closely to what is happening in the here and now—within the child, within the relationship, and within the play itself. This approach supports children in integrating their experiences, developing a stronger sense of self, and moving toward greater wholeness, with a particular interest in how interpersonal neurobiology informs regulation, connection, and relational healing.

She also works closely with parents, helping them deepen their understanding of their child’s emotional experience and supporting the development of secure, meaningful attachment within the family system.

When play therapy is facilitated by a Registered Play Therapist (Supervsior), the work becomes more than play or conversation—it is a clinically grounded and developmentally appropriate process for healing and growth.

Janet understands play as a powerful expression of a child’s inner life, shaped by wonder, curiosity, and lived experience. In the playroom, the child is often the guide. Through symbolic play, children reveal their feelings, worries, hopes, and longings in ways that are both profound and meaningful.

Janet holds this process with intention and care, honoring the child’s pace and trusting the wisdom that emerges through their play. She is continually moved by the authenticity children bring into the playroom and the ways in which their worlds begin to expand as they develop greater confidence, emotional awareness, and connection.

Her work is grounded in recognizing and honoring the unique qualities of each child—and each person—she has the privilege to work with.

Play is the Way to Wellness!

What is a Registered Play Therapist (RPT™)?

Many therapists incorporate play into their work with children; however, the Registered Play Therapist™ (RPT) credential reflects a higher level of specialized training, experience, and commitment to the practice of play therapy.

Janet holds the credential of Registered Play Therapist Supervisor and has over 500 (and counting!!) additional training hours in conducting play therapy sessions, teaching, and to be able to uniquely understand children.

The Association for Play Therapy describes play therapy as “a way of being with the child that honors their unique developmental level and helps in the ‘language’ of the child—play.” Through this approach, licensed mental health professionals use therapeutic play to support children in expressing themselves, processing experiences, and working through emotional and relational challenges.

Play therapy is most effective within a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship. As this relationship develops, children are able to more freely express both the joys and the difficulties of their lives through play, allowing for meaningful healing and growth.

If you are seeking specialized support for your child, you are welcome to reach out to Janet to schedule a complimentary 20-minute consultation.
